"Life has no meaning the moment you lose illusion of being external"-Jean-Paul Sartre?

1.) Restate the quote/explain the quote in your own words

2.) Explain what the quote means

3.) Describe any unfamiliar words or words that will aid in understanding

4.) Give an example supporting/illustrating the meaning of the quote

5.) Explain why you agree or disagree with the quote

6.) State what elements of existentialism the quote relates to and how|||If you can understand this explanation, you will be able to do your assignment. Sartre believed that:

"Consciousness is being aware of two things: we are aware of the existence of the world via our perceptions (in a phenomenological sense) and we are aware of our self as not being in that World. Indeed, consciousness is seen as an act of negation since being conscious is being aware of what is not the self. The self is non-physical, non-perceptual, non-phenomenological; it is non-existence since existence is determined by perception."

Sartre is one of the most difficult philosophers to understand, because of this aspect of his ideas--that what is in our minds is not the same as the objects themselves of which we are aware. Therefore, we, not being 'our bodies' but being 'our minds', are not part of the world. But we must carry the illusion that we are part of that world, that we are "external"; not our bodies--of course those are external like a tree--but our minds, because our minds are capable of causing external actions and yet our minds are not external in the world.|||I am not sure what that means...
